I sit at a desk in the living room and keep my headphones, laptop and supplies there as well. Open focused space:) There are a couple of sofas around so I work there for a bit to relax sometimes.
For students
Welcome to IOS Workspaces
A workspace matters because it is your place to work: accessible, ready and yours. Ideally it is quiet enough to talk and share. We know that is not always possible - do the best you can with the space you have.
Your workspace is part of the lesson
In an online school, there are no corridors or bells! You hopefully have a timetable, and then sit down, and your tutorials begin. A ready desk means you are ready to learn with no distractions.
Ah, wouldn't this be a nice workspace!
But realistically, we know this isn't possible for everyone, and some of you are also on the go. But ideally, a workspace should have:
- a clear surface, tidy enough to think
- a notebook and pen in reach, so ideas land on paper
- a clock you can see - work for twenty minutes, then a real break. Look up the Pomodoro method to avoid screen fatigue
- a calendar up, with your timetable where you can see the day
- today's notebooks/books out
- a place with no background noise or distractions, so you can share and engage in the tutorial
Leave the chair between blocks. Stretch, drink and look out of the window. The break is part of the work. See our online etiquette and device requirements.
This is how our tutors actually work. We are not saying whose is whose - so keep guessing! Your tutors love teaching you and we'd also love you to be ready to learn.
Pin a photo of your workspace, with your first name. Or skip the photo and tell us how you work. It joins the wall so someone else can borrow the idea.

That’s where I do my prep and live tutorials most of the time.
A projector would be nice! A treadmill as well to keep fit.
I sit at my desk in my room. Start school by 8:30am, making sure to stay consistently hydrated, I have multiple pens for corrections and writing, and my Bible for morning reading, along with my other daily books. Keeping my personalised schedule close to hand with a visual breakdown of my week and the year ahead.
My daily routine begins right after work; I finish around 7:30 AM, and I start school at 8:00 AM. During the day, I work from our office using either a laptop, a desktop computer, or both. My typical schedule consists of completing two to three lessons with accompanying tests each day, followed by an afternoon lunch break, and when it comes to taking notes, I prefer using pens for diagrams and general writing!
Pomodoro method is great, especially if you are high energy! It works for very successful people and helps a lot.
At a table with a clock behind me, I sometimes switch workspaces to outside on our verandah or at a friends house to help me focus better with changes of scenery. Earbuds are in almost the whole time, with a pomodoro video in the backround, sometimes 25/5 sometimes 50/10, depends on the work i'm doing and the energy I have. Get up and get a drink in breaks, respons to messages, make food if it's lunch time, go bouldering in long breaks if i've got the day's work done, or just do some weight training with some weights at home. Even running around or doing cartwheels gets some energy out.
I sit at a table to do prep, but on a couch or in my bed to do tutorials.
Every day in the morning I go uot to town for 50min walk (plus time in town). I sit at two different desks depending on the subject I am doing. I always have pens/pencils and paper to hand and usually a google doc!
Dream workspace! Hmm....this would be nice!
